CFPB Overhauls Complaint System

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has announced significant changes to its consumer complaint system, effective August 14, 2026. The agency will cease the discretionary public publication of complaint narratives and visualizations, citing issues that limited its effectiveness and utility (CFPB Newsroom, Aug 14, 2026; Jun 24, 2026). The CFPB stated its intention to correct 'flaws to restore integrity and utility' to the system (CFPB Newsroom, Jun 24, 2026). In other actions, the CFPB also worked to ensure consumers affected by Bilt's transition to a new bank partner were appropriately remedied (CFPB Newsroom, Jun 02, 2026).

FTC Issues Multiple Scam Warnings

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has released a series of consumer alerts, emphasizing protection against various scams. A significant focus was placed on the non-consensual sharing of intimate images online. The FTC advises consumers on how to report platforms that fail to remove such images promptly (FTC Consumer Alerts, Sep 23, 2026; Sep 17, 2026), and provides guidance for victims (FTC Consumer Alerts, Sep 10, 2026).

Other warnings included alerts about scammers impersonating farm equipment businesses (FTC Consumer Alerts, Sep 15, 2026) and car dealerships (FTC Consumer Alerts, Sep 1, 2026). The FTC also cautioned against scanning unknown QR codes (FTC Consumer Alerts, Sep 3, 2026) and advised vigilance during National Preparedness Month to avoid scams related to natural disasters (FTC Consumer Alerts, Sep 9, 2026). Consumers are encouraged to report scams to the FTC (FTC Consumer Alerts, Aug 28, 2026).

Federal Reserve Seeks Input on Stablecoin Regulation

The Federal Reserve Board has requested public comment on two proposals aimed at establishing a regulatory framework for Board-supervised payment stablecoin issuers under the GENIUS Act. This initiative was announced on September 24, 2026, and falls under Banking and Consumer Regulatory Policy (Federal Reserve Press Releases, Sep 24, 2026). The Board also released economic projections from its September 15-16 Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting (Federal Reserve Press Releases, Sep 16, 2026).
